slate book review

I had the pleasure of making illustrations for the Slate Book Review this month! There is a nice review of Heads or Tails on the site as well. Several of my illustrations for Slate are below, and more are on the site.

where'd i leave the thing itself

This Friday Nov. 30th from 6 to 9pm, Alexander Stewart and I have a exhibition opening at Roots and Culture Contemporary Art Center, called Where'd I Leave the Thing Itself. All the pieces in the show are collaborative works, which we cooked up during our stays at Yaddo and Haystack this past Summer.
The main piece in the show is a looping animation called "Cruxfilm," composed of both abstract and figurative arrangements. They are held in suspense, transforming, and sometimes collapsing. "Poiple Phase" uses laser-cut slides in two 35mm slide projectors to make unpredictable combinations of text and images. There are also several works on paper, which we made by alternately adding, adjusting and subtracting elements from compositions in the studio.

We had a lot of fun with these pieces, and we hope that you will come out and see the show this weekend!

All the pieces from my show Lips and Crumbs (such as the few shown here) are available for sale at Desert Island in Brooklyn! There are ten 8x10" works and 2 larger pieces, all framed. Also available is an editioned print of an excerpt from one of my comics in Heads or Tails. The image can be seen below, of this fellow getting a book sunburn. These are 11x14", signed, and printed on nice thick paper in a very limited edition of 10. To purchase or with inquiries, get in touch with Desert Island!

Desert Island and BCGF

This Thursday Nov. 8, I have an opening of original works on paper and a Heads or Tails book signing at the wonderful Desert Island in Brooklyn!

Then Saturday the 10th is the Brooklyn Comics and Graphics Festival. I've heard such good things about this fest and this will be my first time there. I will have a table there and will be selling Heads or Tails, screenprints, and other books including a couple of the pop-up ones. Come visit me!

There will also be two Eyeworks animation screenings of a program we put together for BCGF, comprised of works selected from this year's Eyeworks Festival. It will be the same program both Saturday and Sunday nights, playing at the Spectacle Theater in Williamsburg at 7:30pm. Not to be missed! More info is here.

50 watts!

I'm so excited to have images from Heads or Tails featured on 50 Watts, my absolute favorite site on the world wide web. The post with images from my book is here, and one should also certainly take a dip into the nearly bottomless and beauteous image archive and stay there for a good long while.
